The season kicked off in early February at the Los Angeles Coliseum putting the new cars to the test. Joey Logano pulled away with the first ever win at the Clash at the Coliseum setting the tone going into Daytona.
If you’re not in tune with racing or the drivers, don’t worry we got you. Because of the changes to the game, anyone could pull away with a win this season. The changes in cars bring changes to the track and how the race plays out. It's Next-Gen, anything could happen! Below we highlight the Candy drivers that are participating in Daytona.
Kyle Larson (Hendrick Motorsports): 2021 reigning champion, Kyle Larson is looking to run it back this season. The 29 year old is one of the best in the business with 16 wins and 127 Top Ten finishes. Larson doesn’t have a Daytona win on his record yet and is hoping to walk away with the checkered flag this year.
Alex Bowman (Hendrick Motorsports): Alex Bowman is making a full circle this year, going back to where his career started. The 28 year old driver began his racing career at Daytona back in 2014. Since then he’s racked up 6 wins and 57 Top Ten finishes. Though he hasn't cracked the Top Ten at Daytona yet, Bowman has two poles and two second-place starts in the past four years.
William Byron (Hendrick Motorsports): The 2018 Rookie of the Year William Byron is looking to up his game in Daytona this year. He started in iRacing and hasn’t looked back since. Byron’s notched 51 Top Ten finishes and two wins with Hendrick Motorsports. His racing career might be on the newer side, but he’s had a crazy successful start.
Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports): Coming back for redemption, Chase Elliott finished second in Daytona in 2021. The 2020 overall champion doesn’t need to prove himself either with 13 wins and 117 Top Ten finishes. Elliott holds the record for the youngest pole sitter in Daytona history, doing it at 20-years-old. He is one of the most well known professional drivers in the U.S and wants to take home his first checkered flag.
Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing): Denny Hamlin doesn’t need much of an introduction, his 46 career wins and 305 Top Ten finishes take care of that for him. He’s looking to come back and complete his three-peat at Daytona with wins in 2019 and 2020. Hamlin finished third overall last season and is looking to take the top spot in 2022.
Martin Truex Jr. (Joe Gibbs Racing): Racing and family go hand-in-hand when it comes to Martin Truex Jr. He joined the sport following his father, uncle, brother and two cousins who also raced professionally. Truex Jr. has definitely made his own mark though as the 2017 Champion, 2021 runner up and has amassed 31 career wins and 248 Top Ten finishes. He’s looking to add a Daytona win to his impressive resume.
Christopher Bell (Joe Gibbs Racing): Christopher Bell is just getting started with his professional racing career. It all started two years ago at Daytona and this year he’s looking forward to improving his Top 20 finish from last year. His career so far has been hot with a win for Joe Gibbs in February of 2021 and 23 other Top Ten finishes.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (JTG Daugherty Racing): Rickey Stenhouse is no stranger to fast starts, he’s been competing at the highest level of US stock car racing for 10 years now. He had a stellar season in 2020 with three Top Five finishes in the first half and a qualification for Pole Position at Daytona. Stenhouse was also the 2013 Rookie of the Year. He’s looking to bring the energy from the first half of 2020 into 2022.
Erik Jones (Petty GMS): Erik Jones ended the 2021 Season in a Top 25 standing and he’s aiming to upgrade on that this season. His first win in professional racing was back on July 7, 2018, he then tacked on another win and wants to keep those Ws coming with Daytona.
Ty Dillon (Petty GMS): Racing is a family affair for Ty Dillon. His father drove for his grandfather’s team and his brother currently races for the team. Ty started his professional career with them, but joined Petty GMS in 2021 to make a name for himself. He currently has six Top Ten finishes and is aiming to add to that this season.
Austin Dillon (Richard Childress Racing): Brother of Ty Dillon, Austin races for his grandfather’s team who is a legend in the space himself. Keeping it all in the family, the father of Austin and Ty Dillon is a former driver and current General Manager of RCR. Daytona is no stranger to Austin Dillion, who won the race in 2018, placing a third checkered flag in his collection. He’s looking to add to that collection and his 57 Top Ten finishes.
Tyler Reddick (Richard Childress Racing): Taking it back to its roots, Tyler Reddick began his racing career at Daytona in 2019. Since then he’s racked up 26 Top Ten finishes. Reddick finished in 13th place overall last season but hasn’t yet cracked the Top 25 at Daytona yet. He’s aiming to change that this year.
Corey LaJoie (Spire Motorsports): There’s a three-peat of Top Ten Daytona finishes on the horizon for Corey LaJoie. He has four Top Ten finishes overall, two being at Daytona in 2020 and 2021. The third generation racer wants to keep that streak going and into the full 2022 season.
Landon Cassill (Spire Motorsports): Landon Cassill is a 12 year stock car veteran and is coming back to compete in Daytona for the first time since 2019. It will be his only race this season and he’ll be rocking number 77. Cassill has one Top Ten finish, but placed Top 20 in Daytona back in 2014 and 2017. He’s hoping to pull out a win, making a name for himself.
